Tattoo artist Levi Greenacres recently wrote his first children’s book: “Mommy’s New Tattoo”
A young girl goes to a tattoo shop as her mother gets her first tattoo, a traditional “Mom” heart.. The girl learns what a tattoo is, why her mother would get one, and how society reacts sometimes to visible body art. When the young girl is old enough to get a tattoo of her own, she weighs the consequences of making a decision that doesn’t wash off.
Here’s a little promotional video he made of the book:
Book and video feature tattooers Madame Vyvyn Lazonga, Katie Williams of Tacoma, Washington’s House of Tattoo, and Portland, Oregon’s Ximena Quiroz, owner and artist at Skeleton Key Tattoo.
Levi was kind enough to reach out to the shop in this very kind email:
Hello Sheila and Darryl,
I used to love walking by your shop as a kid, and exploring all the stuff inside too. It was a big part of my excitement getting to go to Seattle (especially when I first moved here from Oklahoma), and was a part of the Market I thought was important to include in my book about my first adventure to a tattoo shop back in 1991 with my mom, who got a piece by Madame Lazonga.
The front of your shop is the first illustration in “Mommy’s New Tattoo,” which I made from a photo I took of the storefront years ago. It’s still a magical place in my memory, and I hope when I get back up to Seattle in July to do a reading, I can stop in and say hello.
Thanks again Sheila for talking to me, I hope I get to meet you all soon.
